  Captopril decrease blood pressure and give an evident hemodynamics effect to patients with congestive heart failure by suppression of the rennin-angiotensin aldosteron system. Captopril prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II (a potent endogenous vasoconstrictor substances) by inhibiting the ACE (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme) Inhibittions of ACE will result in decreased plasma angiotensin II, so the blood pressure will be decreased. It also result in increased Plasma Renin Activity (PRA), the later resulting from the loss of negative feedback on rennin release caused by reduction in secretion, and as a result, small increases in serum potassium may occur along with sodium and fluid loss
